据说是阎罗法王在这宝座下面承托
无学无德之人难以居之
因宗喀巴在世的时候
曾把格鲁教法托付给阎罗法王
故此护法为格鲁派之不共护法
一千年前说
唐卡中的「一条金线值一匹马」
而这幅一年多时间的虔心创作
更是赋予了艺术最极致的灵魂与价值
藏传佛教各教派都有自己特殊的护法，具誓法王当金却甲——即阎罗护法是文殊的化身。藏传佛教非常重视“三根本”，即上师、本尊、护法，而格鲁派的上师、本尊、护法都是文殊收美记 ，因此格鲁派有文殊之教的称号手卷烟丝 。在格鲁派中，修上师瑜伽是以宗喀巴大师为皈依境，而宗喀巴在历史上被称为文殊的化身；大威德怖畏金刚是宗喀巴极其推崇的本尊，也是文殊化现的忿怒本尊；格鲁派最重视的护法——阎罗法王也是文殊化现之护法。
在甘丹寺内，有格鲁法王甘丹赤巴的宝座，是格鲁派最高教主的象征。据说是阎罗法王在这宝座下面承托，无学无德之人难以居之。因宗喀巴在世的时候，曾把格鲁教法托付给阎罗法王，故此护法为格鲁派之不共护法橄榄树简谱 。
阎罗护法一般分为三种，即外、内、密阎罗法王。外修阎罗肤色蔚蓝，赤身露体，体型矮胖，大腹低垂。一面二臂，为忿怒牛面，上有二角，锋利无比重生之大枭雄。三目圆睁，血盆之口大张，暴出四颗獠牙。须眉似火，赤发上冲。右手持骷髅杖，左手握缚魔索史逸婵 ，以右蜷左展之势踏立于青蓝忿怒水牛脊骨之上。旁边“杂母支”母身色蓝黑，一面二臂，右手持三尖叉窦家媛，左手持盛血颅器，仰视阎罗。也站立于凶暴水牛脊背之上。此“外阎罗”即居于南方七层地下，掌管一切生命轮回之狱主，为护持业果教法及下士道之护法。仝正国
此幅唐卡就表现了阎魔敌的庄严法相。主尊正上方为宗喀巴大师，黄、红、青、白四色阎魔敌眷属护法分布于上师两边，各种降伏幻化身围绕主尊。整幅唐卡构图传统，设色清雅，画工精致，笔触考究.
Yama Dharmaraja, Outer (Tibetan: shin je cho gyal. English: Lord of Death, King of the Law): the special protector deity for the Vajrabhairava Tantra and meditation practices.
Yama Dharmaraja, an emanation of Manjushri聊斋之侠女 , is a Tantric Buddhist deity, and specifically a protector deity. The name means 'Lord of Death, King of the Law.' In this circumstance the word 'dharma' does not refer to all of the teachings of Buddhism王紫菲 , or the truth of reality, but rather to the law of cause and effect (karma). Karma is often referred to as a fundamental law of Buddhism.
There are three principal forms of Dharmaraja which are known as the 'Outer, Inner and Secret.' A basic Tibetan description of 'Outer' Yama Dharmaraja and his female consort Chamundi is as follows: "...above a buffalo...is the Lord of Death绝剑弄风, Yama Dharmaraja, with a body black in colour, having a very fierce buffalo face. The right hand holds a skull stick and the left a lasso. [He is] adorned with charnel ground ornaments. The red linga is pointing upwards [and he] stands in a manner with the left leg extended. On the left side is the Mistress of Death, Chamundi, with a body black in colour, one face, and two arms. The right [hand] holds a trident and the left a blood filled skullcup. The breasts are pendant and the stomach distended. [She is] wearing a buffalo hide and adorned with a garland of bones."
Yama Dharmaraja is a Tantric Buddhist - wisdom deity - protector of the Method Class (father) of Anuttaryoga Tantra specifically used by those engaged in the practices of the Vajrabhairava Tantra. This practice is found in all of the Sarma Schools (Sakya, Kagyu, Jonang, Gelug, and others), however the Gelugpa Tradition hold Yama Dharmaraja in a special regard as one of their three main religious protectors along with the Shadbhuja (six-armed) form of Mahakala and Vaishravana Riding a Lion.唐卡
